Our Mission and Vision

The iask Mission

To be the premiere organization nationally that addresses the mental, physical, relational, spiritual, and career well being of African American Professional Women.

The iask Vision

Many organizations claim to offer sisterhood and friendship, we at iask want to offer our members more than just a promise of sisterhood; we want our members to know that sisterhood is the cornerstone principle upon which iask is built.

We say this with the clear understanding that as human beings we all make mistakes, we have disagreements, we hurt each other, and at one time or another we gossip and malign each other. That is our condition as human beings and it always will be. But, the key to any successful relationship or friendship starts with a long-suffering spirit, a forgiving heart, merciful compassion, and a deep desire for reconciliation with others even when we fail each other as we most assuredly will. Our goal is to help each other to grow, grow-up, and to change for the better.

We want to focus on the healing and wellness that so many of us so desperately need by creating an organization that is by us, about us, and for us. One that truly welcomes us, takes care of us, nurtures us, and blesses us!

We want to empower black women to care for themselves, rest themselves, open up and build solid and supportive relationships with other similarly situated women. Most importantly we want to encourage each other to seek help when we need it most and not fear that we will be viewed as weak for doing so. Our hope is to help PBW become softer, gentler, kinder, by learning to nurture ourselves so that we can be our best at work, with family, and in life.

We can do this by helping black women rid themselves of the notion that we are super women in life and that we can do it all. No woman is an island. This is a particular issue for black women in America, it always has been.

Finally, we will also strive to work in collaboration and cooperation with men of color and men in general in fostering a better understanding of who we are as women, the relations between us in our workplaces, communications with each other, our respect for one another, and in our desire to build healthier individual dating/marital relationships and family lives.
